When people start to show symptoms of acid reflux disease (GERD), the first thing I usually do is buy some type of antacid tablet chewable or some kind of liquid. While this method is not harmful if used occasionally, the continued use of antacids may do more harm than you can imagine.

when you eat antacids, acid reflux problem is often compounded because antacids tend to slow down the digestive process and, in turn, caused the problem to linger. Not only that, but the use of antacids causes the stomach to release more acids with the following food. This is because acid sensors are distorted by the antacid caused the acid-base balance in the stomach to be unbalanced. With this, stomach thinks it needs to release more acid in order to obtain the digestion performed.

It is a complicated process, but the end result is a improving the condition of acid reflux. Acid reflux does not have to be treated with antacids. Acid reflux may actually be treated by a common approach dietary sense. Not a diet that is complicated or difficult to treat. It is simply cut in certain types of food, while increasing other types. Reflux Diet acid is also includes the time of meals so that food is digested properly.

If using acid reflux diet and eat at the appropriate times, the condition often can be controlled quite well. It is really difficult.

While acid reflux diet is an easy to get one, there certain myths and fallacies that must be considered before starting a diet for acid reflux.

As a fallacy is that milk will reduce the acid in the stomach. Often many people are going to consume a glass of milk before bedtime. While milk is thought to reduce stomach acid the reverse is true. Causes production more sour milk because it contains fat and proteins to be broken down further for digestive purposes. The senses of the stomach of these compounds and therefore releases more acids. Therefore, if you have acid reflux problems, do not drink a glass of milk before bedtime.

Another myth of acid reflux which has recently been exposed is that fruit juices, spicy foods and coffee causes too much acid and therefore cause acid reflux conditions. The Archives of Internal Medicine recently published information on studies that show that this belief is a myth and nothing more.

So what kind diet that reduce the effects of acid reflux disease?

It has been shown that the usual culprit in acid reflux disease is a diet high in fat. Every time you eat a high fat diet are at risk for exposure of acid reflux symptoms, especially if you eat a big meal.

You should eat small meals several times a day instead of the traditional three meals a day. This gives your stomach a chance to digest a small meal before the next feeding. This leaves little in the stomach for digestion and so the acid is released only in small quantities.

It also a good idea to eat more complex carbohydrates such as pasta or rice instead of foods high in fat or high sugar. This allows the stomach to release small amounts of acid instead of large doses of acid accompanying foods high in fat content.

Try to avoid things such as excessive alcohol consumption, especially beer, or great desserts.

After a meal, make an effort to remain in an upright sitting position for at least an hour.

If you have to lie down, elevate the head and upper torso so that food does not slide into the esophagus causing acid reflux.

When and if you feel an attack of acid reflux symptoms start, one of the best things you can do is cut the way back to eat for a day or two. That does not mean that they should stop eating completely. Just eat very simple items such as raw vegetables in small amounts, for a couple of days. This gives the stomach, a chance to rest and readjust. In other words, allowing the stomach to restore itself. This simple task can save you a world of hurt.

A Once you have allowed the stomach to relax and restore, to start eating smaller meals and following the above guidelines. Avoid antacids if possible.

Acid reflux disease can be avoided, or at least controlled, if you only use a little discipline and common sense.
