Borage seed oil is derived from the seeds of Borago officinalis – also known as starflower. It is a herbal remedy. It is used medicinally as an anti-inflammatory to treat arthritis and skin diseases certain (eg atopic dermatitis) and respiratory inflammation. NOT been evaluated by the FDA! It is one of the largest amounts of gamma-linolenic acid (Omega-6) seed oil – higher than the seed oil and black currant or evening primrose oil, which is considered similar. GLA is about 24% of the oil normally. A purified specific extraction process can offer products with + 50% GLA content. SIDE EFFECTS: Serious side effects but is unlikely to include: upset stomach, stomach pain, yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine. PRECAUTIONS: Consult your doctor if you have liver disease – borage oil may contain chemicals called pyrrolizidine alkaloids. These chemicals can cause liver damage. Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
