Thinking of taking fish oil supplements, but concerned about mercury in fish oil? How do you know if your fish oil supplements are the most high quality and purity?

According to the States United States Agency States Environmental Protection (U.S. EPA), the estimated safe daily intake of mercury is 0.1 mg / kg body weight per day. Fish oil capsules from each sample were punctured and the liquid content were sent for analysis of mercury levels. The lower limit of detection was 6 mg / L. Mercury levels lower than this level reading is considered negligible.
Results showed that none of the fish oils brands tested contained significant levels of mercury. Most readings are in the Omega Brite at 12 mg / L of mercury and CVS brand contained 10 mg / L.
Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega, Sundown and Kirkland brands all negligible levels of mercury measured by below 6 mg / L.
The investigators concluded that mercury in fish oils analyzed is similar to the levels of mercury found in people who eat fish regularly. This lead researchers believe that mercury is removed during the manufacturing process or the fish used to make fish oils were relatively mercury-free.
This study also showed that even large doses of fish oil concentrate should not cause mercury toxicity. Based on the results research, six capsules of 1000 mg. Fish oil contains Omega Brite 0.072 mg of mercury. This is equal to 2.1% of average daily consumption of mercury of the population typical American.
Based on this study show that most fish oil supplements contain zero to negligible levels of mercury. By Of course, this depends on what brand of fish oil supplement you are using. Other fish oil manufacturers use other third party testing laboratories of its products.
